T.I.M. on the Panel: Kings of Gay Porn

Kings of Gay Porn Panel & Clip Show plus screening of “Smut Capital of America”

Tuesday, September 20th 8pm, $10 @ SF LGBT Center – 1800 Market Street, San Francisco, CA

Discover out what goes on behind the scenes and on-screen at this one-of-a-kind gay porn summit featuring the leaders in one of San Francisco’s most popular industries.  Enjoy a collection of short scenes from Naked Sword, Raging Stallion Studios, Falcon Entertainment, and Treasure Island Media, followed by a panel discussion exploring the cinematic, aesthetic, and erotic visions of the top gay porn producers in the world.

Our local pride begins with Michael Stabile presenting his short film “Smut Capital of America.” In 1970, San Francisco became the first city in the country to effectively legalize pornography, turning the city into a boomtown for sex. Featuring John Waters, Kathryn Reed, Don Romesburg, Habib Carouba, Jeffrey Escoffier, Marty Rosenthal, Vaughn Kincey, John Karr, this documentary explores the people who fomented this cinematic revolution and made a fortune changing the way Americans thought about sex.

The Panelists

Featured panelists include: Jack Shamama, Product Manager at NakedSword and editor of GayPornBlog; Chris Ward, president of Falcon Studios / Raging Stallion; Kent Taylor, Vice President and Chief Photographer of Falcon Studios / Raging Stallion; Gehno Sanchez, Director of P.R., Community Development and Production Team member at Treasure Island Media; Michael Stabile, journalist and director of “Smut Capital of America”, a documentary on the adult film industry’s origin in San Francisco; and John Karr, esteemed porn reviewer, co-founder of the SF Jacks and guest lecturer of gay sexuality and erotology at SF State University and the Institute for the Advanced Study of Human Sexuality.

The Past, Present, and Future of Gay Porn

These award-winning panelists will present a short clip from each of their studios and then explore questions about the changing landscape of gay porn, moderated by Good Vibrations’ Staff Sexologist Dr. Carol Queen.  The unique perspectives of different gay porn studios, filmmakers and reviewers will shape a fascinating conversation about shifts in trends, aesthetics, laws, and consumption; their role as filmmakers and fantasy makers; the politics of porn, and the limitations and creative possibilities in the genre.
