Calling I. Que Grande’s PORKED a great porn movie could qualify as the understatement of the year. 

Guys often underestimate how important and subtle direction is in male porn.  And how absolutely different it is from narrative film direction.  While narrative film directing is a matter of getting one person’s vision recorded, great porn direction is much more cooperative.  Directing porn involves carefully and subtlety guiding the ongoing sex.  Have you ever watched a border collie guiding a herd of animals?  That’s close to porn directing.  

The best porn director always holds the camera himself.

There are a few general rules on how to shoot porn that we use at TIM.  In future posts I’ll be going into each rule in detail.  But for this post, I’ll mention four and show a couple of brief clips by way of illustration.

The rules:

—The cameraman is the director.

—Being a good director means telling men what to do.  Being a great director means allowing the men having sex to direct themselves.  Give them an outline beforehand of what the sex will be, give them guidance and encouragement during the shoot, but always let them follow their own natural desires and inclinations.

—Think of the camera as a sexual organ that’s as excited by the sex as a cock is.

—Move smoothly.  This sounds easy, but it takes a lot of practice and experience.

With these suggestions in mind, watch these three brief clips from a scene in PORKED. It’s features Champ Robinson, Sir Malice Christian and Blaze Austin. Nothing’s better than three men who know what they want and need. In this scene, two dominant men connect with one sub and I Que’s able camera
captures some beautiful subtleties.

Clip One
It’s a big deal when a bottom’s hole is first revealed for inspection by the tops. It’s one of those moments that most porn misses. The biggest mistake amateurs make in shooting porn is failing to recognize how singular and important these
near-universal sexual moments are. Male sex can seem repetitive structurally, but every sexual encounter is as individual as a fingerprint, and it’s that defining individuality that the camera should be hungry to observe, recognize, and
capture. Capturing them means the difference between the spontaneous beauty of life or a dull scene full of clichés. The depth of what the camera catches is a perfect gauge of the cameraman’s understanding of men.
Watch Blaze’s eyes, his open mouth, and how his head goes back when his hole is patted for the first time. “Ah…fuck yeah.” A small but very significant (and beautiful) movement. It would have been easy to miss but I Que caught it perfectly.

Clip Two
2.36 – 3.01:
Watch the subtle and complex exchanging of nipple play. You’ll see it, understand it and feel it if you’ve had some experience with the art of nipple play. Again, if the beginning pornographer is too focused only on the mechanics of dicks and holes, this sort of thing can be missed.
One top is pointedly resting his hand on the bottom’s left nipple, very softly. The other top squeezes his own left nipple (it’s clear he’s had some fairly serious nipple play in the past). Then the second top reaches across to stimulate the first top’s nipple just as the latter begins to very gently squeeze the bottom’s
nipples. This is connection as subtle as music. Remember: the fucking is the fundamental process here and secondary play—like nipple play—provide the overtones of pleasure that give the session its particular flavor, character and
meaning. Just as the second top reaches across and very briefly flicks the fucking top’s nipple (while also squeezing the bottom’s nipples more firmly) the camera moves to show us that fucking has started. As the fucking gets a bit deeper and harder, more pressure is put on the bottom’s pierced nipple.
Each particular facet of engagement among the men acts as a kind of tributary that feeds into the larger stream of pleasure and connection. This is a Tremendously subtle way in which the men communicate the intimacy developing among them.

Clip Three
6.17 – 6.42:
Where to begin? The second top is fucking while the bottom also sucks the first top’s cock. The bottom makes approving, happy sounds in rhythm with the second top’s thrusts. When the second top pulls out, the bottom reaches back to finger his own hole, as if to savor and extend the sensation of being fucked—and to feel the heat, the wet, the stretching that have resulted from the top’s cock.
