“I like people to play within the situation and then, at some point, you arrive at a particular moment. And to me that’s what’s important.”
Gay American photographer whose photos defined the aesthetics of magazine photos in the 90’s. Herb Ritts was an in-demand photographer that walked the line between fashion and commercial shoots. Ritts (who never went to school for photography) worked for fashion brands like Chanel, Versace, and Calvin Klein.
Ritts’ photographs are well known for his clean lines, use of shadow, and celebrity subjects. A popular photographer during the supermodel era of the 1990’s, Ritts eventually found his way into the director’s chair making music videos for artists like Madonna, Tina Turner and Britney Spears.
