Gay Black filmmaker, poet, and essayist. Marlon Riggs is known for his work dealing with themes of homophobia, masculinity, and Black male sexuality. His critically esteemed film “Tongues Untied” was lambasted by religious conservatives upon its release, but has since become a cult classic among younger gay Black men. 

“Faggot Forefathers” is a weekly series highlighting the lives of historically significant gay men and their contributions to our world.
