PAUL’S PHOTOS || The Porn Model

Outside, I heard a voice say “What’s the concept for this shoot?”  And Nick said “You take your clothes off.  The concept is that you’re naked.” It was Friday evening, I was exhausted and watching Badlands in one of the studio rooms.  I’d completely forgotten that a man was coming to be shot.

He’s done an enormous amount of mainstream gay porn.  I can’t remember his name.  I had him climb up on the table and asked him to find some positions that he thought were interesting.

Guys who’ve done lots of porn are always the most difficult to work with.  They have expectations and they have stock poses.  Getting something natural from them can be exhausting and frustrating (for both me and the model).

After a long week, I was too tired—or lazy—to get out of my chair.  I let Badlands play and kept asking him for different poses. This one I liked.

As the movie played on, he got more and more relaxed and eventually stopped doing porn poses.

He’s completely inured to being objectified—his body becomes a succinct and available thing for the camera. With a model like this, you have to wait for him to get bored or tired.  Then the man starts to come through.

Eventually he started watching the movie with me.  That was when I began to warm up to him.

When Badlands was over, he sat back and I took thiese.  No model left, just a man.

As he was leaving I took a couple of shots just before he got dressed.  He had a world-weariness that was hard to break through.  But he was also darkly handsome, intense and enormously appealing.

I said something like “You know, I could happily spend the rest of my life with my face buried in your ass.”  He grinned, turned and hit this pose.

The porn model was back and the man was gone.
