Gay American self-taught painter, mentor to Andy Warhol. Renowned for his male nudes, particularly The New Adam (1963), an enormous eight foot by thirty-nine foot nude portrait of gay actor Sal Mineo. The New Adam was dedicated to Stevenson’s lover, Lord Timothy Willoughby. He also appeared in several Warhol/Morrissey films, including Heat (1972) in which he played Harold Childe and sucked Joe Dallesandro’s cock.
