“If ever I am to be a successful photographer, exuberance and fantasy, or qualities of that order, will be the making of me, rather than calculations and impassivity.”
Gay American fashion photographer celebrated also for his imaginative homoerotic male nudes, many of which were never publicly available until after his death in 1955. Lynes was commercially successful and became the head of the west coast Vogue Magazine studio in 1946, photographing celebrities like Kathryn Hepburn, Rosalind Russel, and Gloria Swanson.
