A gay choreographer recognized for his work in popularizing music videos as an art form. Michael Peters’ most widely recognized choreography can be found in the music video for the Michal Jackson song Thriller.
Peters made a name for himself choreographing on Broadway, later winning an award for his work in the 1982 musical Dreamgirls. At the height of his career, Peters was called “the Balanchine of MTV” and his work was sought out by celebrities like Madonna, Lionel Richie, Pat Benatar and Diana Ross.
