Meet DARREN – The latest man to join Paul Morris’ stable of Marked Men.
“I had always considered getting a tattoo but was never sure what to get. Every couple of months or so, I would get inspiration from designs that I would see or pictures or perhaps another tattoo I’ve seen somewhere else but a while I would either talk myself out of it or drop the whole the thing. Then one day I arrived into work with a package sitting on my desk. It was from San Francisco. Treasure Island Media to be exact. I gleefully opened the package wondering what delights lay inside; a DVD (Cumsloppy Buttholes – I do love Sean Storm), a LOADED t-shirt, a couple of preview DVDs from their summer 2012 collection and a bunch of stickers. I started to shuffle through the stickers wondering which bars/clubs/public/coffee shop/restaurant toilets I could tag these bad boys in. Then I came across one sticker in particular. It stood out like a piece of gold from the rest. I knew instantly this was the tattoo. This was the image I wanted to be inked on my virgin skin. ”
“Today (9 February 2013) I visited a local tattoo parlor called ‘Tattoos For Lost Souls’. I was booked in for an appointment with a tattoo artist called Barry at 12pm. I arrived and still wasn’t nervous. I hadn’t been nervous at all. I knew this was what I wanted for my first tattoo, it was right. As I lay down and work on the tattoo got underway, Barry asked me what Treasure Island Media was. I love it when people ask me this question. As always, I retorted with my usual question of: “what do you think Treasure Island Media is?” Barry thought Treasure Island Media was my own local media company or my own sort of online piracy company that targeted the movie industry. I laughed. I explained that Treasure Island Media was a bareback gay porn company based in San Francisco. This made Barry stop what he was doing, looked up at me and asked why I am getting their logo tattooed to my leg. I explained to Barry that to me, Treasure Island Media is more than a bareback gay porn company.”
“To me, it’s a subculture that is linked to non-conformity, freedom, hedonism and taboo. I then asked Barry why do people across the world have religious symbols and text tattooed on their bodies. He thought for a moment and replied that it’s what people believe in. I informed Barry that this is something that I believe in and that porn is more honest than religion.”
